During the Edo period(1603-1867),Kanazawa flourished as a castle town of the Kaga Clan. The lord Maeda ruled the Kaga Clan for almost 300 years. The Kaga Clan was the second biggest Clan after the Tokugawa shogunate.The lord Maeda invested a lot of money to develop traditional arts and crafts for generations. There are lots of historic sites, and traditional arts and crafts. They are Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle enclosure, Kutani Pottery, Shiki lacquerware, Kinpan gold leaf, Kaga Yuzen silk dyeing etc, Kanazawa is a gastronomic city,too. Various kinds of fish are landed from the Japan Sea and many vegetables are produced locally. Food is fresh and tastes good.
